Kapote the Rottie was rescued by New Leash on Life from New Orleans along with a lot of other dogs and cats- every one of them had heartworm and Kapote had lost so much weight that the only thing that didn't have bones sticking out was his head. I had just a few months before I lost my other rottie to cancer and a schnauzer to old age. A neighbor on the board of NLOF asked me if I would foster Kapote for a short time until he gained some weight and the heartworm got handled.
We kept him in a big cage in our living room and the only time he could come out was to go to the bathroom. No playing or running or anything.. He survived the heartworm and needless to say we adopted him. He has been the light in the window for us and is the sweetest, most grateful dog....
The Pit/boxer, Bella, was found in a backyard in Compton with no food or water and in the direct sun with no shade. She was about a day from death when my friend found her and took her to the vet. Bella was in the hospital for many days but she survived. My friend asked me to take her for a short time until she could find her a home and despite arguments with my husband, she stayed with us, and he is now crazy about her. That is Bella's story!
